The power of a good – no, GREAT nurse, is life changing." Annotated Bibliography Reflection #1 "The Future of the Associate Degree in Nursing Program."The Future of the Associate Degree in Nursing Program | ADN or BSN Program? Both?N.p., n.d. Web. 7 Sept. 2016. My article was on the "Future of the Associates Degree in Nursing". Several hospitals have started to require that the nurses they hire have a bachelor’s degree and other hospitals will soon follow. Many New York lawmakers are in support of this and have requested the “BS in 10” law which if passed will require that if a nurse does not already have a bachelor in nursing they will be required to obtain it within 10 years. In contrast, due to the drastic nursing shortage, associate degree nurses are still needed in non-hospital settings. My research question is, how can you become successful with a nursing degree? This article fits in my research because to become successful with a nursing degree you need the degree itself and knowing which one is best for your career interest, associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing, is essential. For example, if you earn an associates degree not knowing that a bachelor’s degree is starting to become a requirement for hospitals you then won’t be able to work in those hospitals. This source as very informative on my topic I learned a lot about the two degrees; why they are different, different opinions on the subject, and how they can be used. Later when I’m researching the career options you have as a nurse I will know to look for the degree level required for that specific career. Annotated Bibliography Reflection #2 "How Nurse Care Affects Patient Recovery."Sacred Heart University Online. N.p., 29 June 2016. Web. 6 Mar. 2017. When you are sick or in the hospital the person you see the most is your nurse or nurses. When you need water, medications, pillows, or anything else they are the person you ask. They are your care taker for your time in the hospital or sometimes they are care takers long term. This article highlights the fact that the way patients are treated by nurses can affect how well or if they recover. By taking classes, collaboration, and a smaller nurse to patient ratio there can increase a patients recovery chances greatly. The article was written by a college, for a nursing school continuation that will help to improve the skills and bedside manner of nurses. Nurses give information to doctors and distribute medications. Patients need to trust their nurses and be feel comfortable sharing openly with them in order to get better. I found a few quotes to highlight in my project ,"patient-centric care is directly linked to health care quality and safety. Nurses can foster this kind of health care environment in a number of ways" and "a nurse’s ability to provide careful instructions for self-management can benefit patient quality of life.". These two quotes represent an answer to my research question. The website is an educational site making it credible. The author uses several statistics and facts from other credible sources showing that they did research on the topic to keep it factual. All the sources were cited in the text. My research is on the relationship between nurses and their patients and this articles is a perfect representation. The article shows that the relationship between the two is very important. The relationship does not only effect the patients overall experience but also their recovery chances. Annotated Bibliography Reflection #3 Buys, Emily, and Mary Waters Says. "Nurses Who Changed My Life the "Amazing Nurse Contest"."Clever Housewife. N.p., 22 June 2012. Web. 10 Mar. 2017. In this blog post Emily posts her personal experiences with nurses. It is a personal story about how her nurses helped her through the birth and loss of her daughter. I chose this blog post over a traditional article because it was so personal and shows how much nurses truly care and impact people. The nurses stayed with her throughout the whole process waiting for her husband and calming her and her parents. After her daughter passed the nurses took extra steps to ensure she was comfortable during her grief and not stuck in a room with a new mom. A few parts of the post really stuck out to me. First she states "The power of a good – no, GREAT nurse, is life changing." this was in the context of her writing on her delivery and recovery. Without the help of the nurses on staff she would not have had a slightly easier recovery. At the end she states "I can’t imagine going through the experience I went through without having some amazing nurses by my side.", this shows how her nurses really impacted her visit and well being. The article was a blog post sponsored by Johnson and Johnson. It doesn't have fact and studies from fancy organizations but it is a true story about how nurses impacted this woman's life and made her tragic experience a little easier. My research question is How do nurses and patients affect each other? This article is about how a few nurses impacted a patient’s life making it direct support for my question. |
